Jamie Griffiths To Run In London Marathon For Birmingham Children's Hospital

Jamie Griffiths, Hereford FC's PR and Administration Officer, will be running in the 2016 London Marathon on 24th April, to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Below he explains why he is taking on the challenge

Two of my three children have received treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital, and the care and support they, and us as a family have received has been second to none. This is my way of saying a small thank you.

Please dig deep and donate as much as you can to a fantastic charity who are very close to my heart.

You can donate easily online here, or by texting BCHA67 £5 or £10 to 70070.

WHY I AM RUNNING FOR BCH

Alfie underwent a minor operation when he was three, and Arthur has undergone two operations on his bilateral cleft lip and palate, and will continue to receive care from them until he is 18.

Words can't describe how much we appreciate the care and support given to us by the cleft team at Birmingham. They first visited us in Hereford just hours after Arthur was born, offering much needed support and advice at a very stressful time.

The support during both operations, not only the care given to Arthur, but also to us as a family from all the staff was greatly appreciated by us.

During both of Arthur's stays in hospital we were lucky to be given a room in the parent accommodation, meaning I could stay a few minutes walk from the ward, and be on hand if Alice or Arthur needed me.

Arthur has undergone two life changing operations, but there are many thousands of children who are treated at BCH for life-threatening illnesses. Whilst we were staying on the ward for Arthur's first operation, a 6 month old baby girl was having her eye removed due to cancer. For his second operation, Arthur was in a bed opposite a young boy who was receiving treatment for a life-limiting disability. The care and support given to every child and family on the ward was exceptional.

I am proud to be able to represent Birmingham Children's Hospital, and know that many other families in Herefordshire have received outstanding care from them as well. Please dig deep and donate as much as you can afford. Every penny goes to making sure each and every child and their family receives the care that they need.
