Delighted To Get Through Said Beadle

In a post match interview with BBC Hereford and Worcester, Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle gave his thoughts on this afternoon's 2-0 win at Rocester.

"Delighted to get through," said Beadle.

"It's a competition that we've said all along is an important one for us.

"The fact that the final is played at the National Stadium is a massive carrot for everybody to get there.

"We've had two tough challenges so far in the two rounds we've had. The one at Bardon and the one today, there were never going to be easy games as today proved to be.

"But I thought we were excellent in our attitude, excellent in our committment to the game and the way the game was played.

"We've talked over recent weeks about how for certain games we might have to change the way we play and we've done it today and shown we can do both sides of it so there's no excuses from the players.

"They've shown today they can do both sides, they can roll their sleeves up and they can put in a good shift and compete.

"It bodes well for future games because again the pitch wasn't brilliant for flowing football that we wanted to play. And they played the way that put us under pressure and we couldn't play that way.

"So credit goes to them as well and they made a real game of it and they were right up for it and so we knew we were in for a game.

"But we're just pleased to be through."

Despite being without both Ryan Green and Joel Edwards, Beadle had cover for them.

"If you're not here, or you're ill, or you're injuried or you can't make the game for whatever reason there are players more than capable of stepping into your shoes and now those players are going to have a fight on their hands to get back into the team.

"I thought today's performance was as good as we've had in recent weeks in the fact that because it wasn't the type of game we normally like to play but they've all dug in and put a real good shift in.

"It was a big loss because they are two fantastic players but we've brought in some fantastic players who have comfortably come in and taken over the mantle for them and done a good job today."

New signing Joe Tumelty played the full ninety minutes.

"I thought he was great today.

"It's never easy when you don't train with your team and you just turn up and play first time. But I thought it was important he gets involved straight away.

"He's dropped down two leagues to come to us. He was a player I earmarked in the summer but he felt he wanted to try something else which is fine.

"But I've kept tabs on him, noticed he hadn't been playing as regularily so thought we would make our interest known and we've done that and I'm delighted he has joined us.

"He showed in spells what he's about, he's another good footballer and he's prepared to work hard and put a shift in. He's makes us stronger again."

Beadle Pleased With Back Four

Peter Beadle Pictured After This Afternoon's Game
Speaking to BN after this afternoon's 2-0 win at Rocester, Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle said he was pleased how the back four defended considering both Ryan Green and Joel Edwards were missing.

"Our back four today were excellent," said Beadle.

"We dealt with everything pretty much first half, second half they had some great deliveries with their set pieces but we defended stoutly and kept a clean sheet."

Keeper Harvey Rivers tipped over two shots and stopped another with his legs.

"Sometimes over recent weeks he hasn't been called on to do a great deal but today he earnt his money as they say.

"He made a couple of good stops and took a couple of good crosses but that's what he's there to do.

"John is there to score goals, Harvey is there to keep them out and he's done it again today.

"So we're delighted we've got back on the clean sheet run. If we can continue that it will bode well for us."

Nathan Summers came on for a few minutes after his spell out with injury.

"With the numbers we had we were a little bit unsure as to whether he was going to be okay but we had a good chat on the bus on the way down and he was adamant he wanted to be part of it.

"He came on and hopefully he'll have no reaction to the twenty minutes he had and so we can get him back into the squad quickly.

"He's done alright today and he's just said he's had no problems so touch wood he'll be alright."

Ryan Green missed the game as he has flu. However captain Joel Edwards's absence, reportedly at a wedding, was noted by supporters.

"He's not available. If he's not available, he's not available," said Beadle.

"But the thing is now this is the worst time not to be in the team.

"The left back who played today (Rob Purdie) put in a good performance as I would have expected him to do and now he's (Edwards) going to have to work hard to get back into the team.

"You want to take that gamble and not turn up then that's up to him.

"I've known for a little while that he wasn't going to be there and I'm disappointed in it. But that's his choice and now he's got a fight on his hands to get back in the team."

Hereford Vase Win Means Changes To Fixture List

Hereford FC's 2-0 win at Rocester in the FA Vase this afternoon means that there will be some changes to the fixture list according to football director Martin Watson.

"The next round is November 21st which will mean that the home game against Sporting Khalsa is postponed," Watson told BN.

"The draw for the next round is on Monday. After the next ten days our next home game, apart from the HFA Bromyard match, is on December 12th against Highgate.

"Both Highgate and Hereford are in the next round of the Vase so should one or both go through then that game is also be postponed.

"So we could land up with no home league matches until Boxing Day after next Saturday's game against Rocester and the following Tuesday's against Stourport."

Rocester 0-2 Hereford

Joe Tumelty Made His Debut For Hereford FC
Two second half goals sent Hereford through to the second round of the FA Vase against a powerful Rocester side, determined to make life difficult for Pete Beadle's men.

After a tricky first half in which Rocester had the better chances, Jamie Willets' far post header and a clever finish by John Mills sealed the 2-0 victory.

The Staffordshire village is home to digger maker JCB and the company's world headquarters dominate. Rocester play in the yellow and black colours made famous by the firm.

Hereford went into the game without captain Joel Edwards and defender Ryan Green, who's suffering with flu. Joe Tumelty made his debut in midfield following his move from Frome this week. Pete Beadle named youngster Jay Richmond among the substitutes, and did without the cup-tied Adam Page and Anthony Robbins.

The sun beamed down on a clear and still autumn day as the first half got underway. Rocester's physical presence helped them shade the opening period with the big defensive duo Carl Allen and Tom Land keeping Mills and Pablo Haysham quiet.

Hereford were lively but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. The Bulls' best opportunity came after half an hour, when Haysham's 30 yard free kick was pushed around the posted, after Haysham himself had been brought down.

At the other end, Harvey Rivers was in good form. He tipped one effort over, and stopped a Dan Brown shot with his legs to keep the scores level. It was goalless at the break, which certainly beats being 3-0 down within a quarter of an hour least time the Bulls travelled to Hillsfield.

The second half saw Hereford turn up the heat on their hosts. Both Mills and Haysham tested the goalkeeper before Hereford took the lead seven minutes after the restart. A Rob Purdie corner found Willets at the far post, and his powerful header put Hereford ahead.

Having A Shoulder To Lean On Might Have Helped
Passion
Rocester were playing with confidence, though. They continued to press Rivers' goal, with the Bulls 'keeper doing well to tip one effort over as the defensive unit looked nervous under pressure. Rocester's central defender Tom Land's header was grabbed by Rivers under pressure, as the home side pushed for an equaliser.

Pete Beadle rung the changes, with Nathan Summers and then Ben Miller coming on to add fresh impetus to the Hereford team. This led to a second goal eight minutes from time. Miller and Tumelty combined to find Mills in the box, who lifted the ball over the sprawling Richard Froggatt in the Rocester goal to double Hereford's advantage.

And Mills Doubles The Advantage
Mills almost found a third for Hereford in the dying stages, when his shot from twelve yards out was pushed behind for a corner.

Hereford will be pleased with the victory against a stubborn Rocester side, who make the league trip to Edgar Street next Saturday. The draw for the second round of the FA Vase will be on Monday, when Hereford will be hoping for a home draw as the road to Wembley continues.

It's Rocester In The FA Vase This Afternoon

Hereford FC are back on the road today with a second trip of the season to Rocester whose ground is close to part of the JCB empire.

The first visit resulted in a 4-3 win for the Bulls, having been 3-0 down after twelve minutes.

That was a Midland Premier League game. Today's fixture is an FA Vase tie.

Manager Peter Beadle will make several changes from the team that started against Rocester back in August. That day he went with Rivers, Gwynne (Oates - 72'), Edwards (c), Lee (Hughes - 46'), James, Summers, Wheatley (Bonella - 46'), Purdie, Mills, Haysham, Page.

Since that game Gwynne, Lee and James have left the club. However Ryan Green, Jamie Willets and Joe Tumelty have joined.

Adam Page is cup-tied and Nathan Summers remains side-lined with an injury.

Beadle would love to take his squad to Wembley but is well aware Rocester will be another tough test for his young side.

"They are not going to turn up and lay down for us, they will put up a fight and make it competitive so we've got to make sure we go there in the right frame of mind and perform so we get through to the next round," he said.

Although it's the last day of October, the weather remains good so travelling to the ground should be relatively easy. Postcode is ST14 5JX.

Admission is £6 for adults.

For those unable to be at the game Radio Hereford FC will have full commentary and Hereford FC In Action 'instant' video of the action.

Rocester Manager Pleads For Local Support

The Last Time The Two Clubs Met Was On August 22nd - 310 Watched That Game
Rocester manager Mark Wilson is pleading for locals to turn out and support his squad when they take on Hereford FC in the FA Vase tomorrow.

"As far as I'm concerned it's the biggest tie around," Wilson told the Burton Mail.

"We're playing the favourites for the Vase.

"I'm pleading with the locals to come down tomorrow and cheer the Rocester lads on.

"We want the local fans to come down and cheer on a side in good form. We've seen with last season's League Cup final the support we can get.

"We know that every time Hereford play at home, they might put another £25,000 or £30,000 into the club with their attendances. We might put £25 or £30 into ours.

"Our preparations haven't been great with not playing for two Saturdays in a row, and we had a friendly against Chesterfield cancelled in the week which I'm disappointed at."

Earlier this season Hereford won a league game at Rocester 4-3, after the home side took a 3-0 lead early in the first half.

"Revenge will not be on the lads' minds," said Wilson. "I've scuppered that from their minds already.

"They're the form side in the division at the moment and we should be fresh – we want to be quick out of the traps.

"We're not going to sit back. We'll give it a real go and the players want to do that too.

"I'm confident that, on our A-game, we can beat anyone in our division."

Joe Tumelty Receives HFA Cup From Dudley Tyler

Joe Tumelty, who has joined Hereford FC today, captained the Hereford United under 18's at an HFA county cup final at Edgar Street in April 2013.

This picture, from the HFA, shows Tumelty receiving the cup from former Hereford United player Dudley Tyler.

The under 18's defeated Pegasus 6-2 to win the cup.

Here's the HFA report from the game:

The second County Cup Final of the season saw Hereford United U18's take on Pegasus Juniors U18 at Edgar Street.
Hereford had the first opportunity after 5 minutes to test the opposition defence, with a free kick from Louis Feeley which just passed the right hand post.
Hereford were seeing the majority of the ball during the opening stages, and on 15 minutes Tom Brook crossed a ball into the middle of penalty area, only to see no Hereford players being able to reach it. On 20 minutes Pegasus were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, Ryan Wilkes stepped up to strike the ball low into the bottom corner of them net.Within 5 minutes Hereford were level through Tom Brock.
On 35 minutes Louis Feeley combined well with Dylan Bonnela in the middle of the field who then passed a through ball to Cory Williams whose cross found the head of Dylan Bonnela. Fortunatey for Pegasus the ball went over the bar.
Joe Tumelty had a good strike from the edge of the box on 42 minutes, only to find Owen Evans in good form in the Pegasus goal who made a great save.
The second half started with Hereford United making the better start and the first attack saw Sam Lewis' shot just go by the post.
Hereford continued to put pressure on Pegasus and in the 50th minute their pressure paid off when the ball was played into the box and the defence failed to clear. The ball was put into the net.
Another through ball from Joe Tumelty found Louis Feeley whose shot was parried by the goalkeeper to the feet of Cory Williams who made no mistake and made it 3-1 to Hereford.
Hereford were now well in control and on 70 minutes they went further ahead when Cory Williams gained possession on the right wing then crossed the ball into the middle of the box where it hit Thomas John  on the back and bounced into the goal.
Following a further 5 minutes of pressure Hereford scored yet another goal. Once again, Cory Williams crossed the ball into the back post where Dylan Bonnela was waiting to slot the ball home.
The next attack saw Louis Feeley feed the ball through to the feet of Cory Williams who made no mistake to make it 6-1.
With time running out Pegasus kept plugging away and won a free kick on 86 minutes. Once again Ryan Wilkes stepped up and struck the ball straight into the net. Soon after the referee's whistle brought the game to an end.
The presentation party for the evening was made up of Colin Addison, Peter Issac and Dudley Tyler who were part of the Hereford United's 'Giantkilling Team' of 1972.
