Lonsdale's Letter To Creditors 'Smacks Of Desperation'.

Yesterday several creditors of Hereford United received a letter signed by club chairman Andy Lonsdale.

In essence the letters asked creditors for 'proof' of what they are owed by the club.

And Lonsdale wrote that he wanted all the details by return of post.

The letters were sent out by recorded delivery.

Of particular note was that any reply was to be sent not to Edgar Street but to an address in Ashford which is understood to be a 'retail premises'.

So why would Lonsdale send out a letter such as this given creditors who have attached to the Winding Up Petition will, almost certainly, already had 'proof' of what they are owed agreed by the Insolvency Practioner, Marc Landsman.

Readers will remember that last summer Landsman prepared a CVA for the club which was turned down by creditors.

One expert who has seen the letter said that it 'Smacks of desperation doesn't it, especially when the CVA numbers were agreed.

'The issue here of course is that he is so practiced at all this stuff, we absolutely expect it to carry on since he'll keep trying to find another loop hole.

'It seems like a tactic designed to stall, nothing more. The judge will be up to speed with all this, since he's seen him in court before. And let's not rule out HMRC in this too. They may have been doing their own digging as well.

'Stalling, or trying to cloud the issue and make people doubt their claim looks like his tactics."

Footnote: Lonsdale's address on the 'Proof of Funds' statement, just two weeks ago, was 15 Warwick Road, Ashford. From this letter it's now 6 Station Parade.
