Disappointing Support for Bulls

Monmouth Bull reflects on the support for Hereford United during the past season.

Following the end of the season, the attendance statistics reflect what became a disappointing return to League 2 for the Bulls. The league average attendance dropped to 2,139, with the average number of home fans (excluding those in the away section) attending falling below two thousand, at 1,858. This represents a sharp decline on last year’s figure of 2,644.

The attendances were further affected by a considerable fall in visiting numbers. League 2 teams brought, on average, 281 fans to Edgar Street. By contrast, League 1 sides had managed an average of 626 fans during last year’s campaign. Declining home, and visiting, fans combined to cause an aggregate total of 20,106 fewer fans to pass through the turnstiles, when compared to last season’s total.

The lowest turnout of home fans, occurred during a string of Tuesday night fixtures, just 1,162 Hereford fans saw the Bulls entertain Northampton, whilst the highest came in August, where 2,703 home fans witnessed a 1-1 draw with Cheltenham.

On the road, the average Hereford League following finished the season at 221, down 169 on last year. The largest following from Hereford were the 630 who made the short trip to Shrewsbury, whilst the lowest were the 94 who travelled to Grimsby.
