Walsall bottom of Pie Chart

According to a football fan who has tasted the pies in nearly all of the 92 top clubs, Walsall's are the worst.

Tom Dickinson from Hertfordshire has spent the season visiting football clubs all over the country in pursuit of pie research and has just three clubs left to visit.

The 22-year-old is writing a book of his experiences, entitled 92 Pies, and he hopes to provide some interesting comment on the state of football and pastry.

Of the 89 pies he has tried so far, the best he tasted was at Morecambe's Christie Park stadium. And the worst?

"That's got to be Walsall," he said. "It didn't have much heat or meat in the middle."

Dickinson, a Bolton supporter, said his research had cost him £3,000.

"All my money goes on petrol and football tickets. Some people travel the world after they leave university, but I’m doing Grimsby and Walsall.

"I’ve been in discussions with publishers, so hopefully I’ll be able to make the money back."

Supporters at lower league clubs have been praised by Dickinson.

"They definitely have much better pies and you also meet much more interesting people," he said.

There's no record of his views on the pies or the people at Edgar Street.
