Lionel Ainsworth - A short profile

Lionel Ainsworth, pictured, signed for Hereford United earlier today. He will wear the number seven shirt.

Ainsworth was born in Nottingham and will be 20 on October 1st. Just 5ft 9in and weighing under 10 stone, Ainsworth joined Derby County when 17. He was named as their academy player of the year and also top scorer in 2005. He signed his first contract with the Rams in August 2005. However he dislocated his shoulder and that injury slowed his progress towards breaking into the first team squad.

Eventually he made his first team debut against Plymouth in February 2006.

Last season he went out on loan to three different clubs last season, Bournemouth, Halifax Town and Wycombe Wanderers where he spent three months.

Wycombe coach Steve Brown said that as Ainsworth had become available they would take him on.

"He has a good pedigree and has enjoyed a good early part of his career."

He made five starts for Wycombe.

Ainsworth has also represented England at Under-17 and Under-19 level.
